WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

VISA REQUIREMENTS

Visitors to Egypt need to have a visa unless they come from one of the visa exempt countries or one of the countries whose citizens are eligible for visa on arrival. To find out the visa policy that applies to your citizenship, visit our visa page here.

AIRPORT

Cairo International Airport is the busiest airport in Egypt and serves as the primary hub for EgyptAir. There are three terminals, Egypt Air operates from Terminal 1, and other European/ Gulf/ Asian airlines operate from Terminal 2 and 3.

GETTING AROUND

BUS

Cairo’s public transport is one of the busiest in the world, Buses have different service lines at varying prices. They have full sixed and mini buses.

TAXIS

Egypt’s streets are serviced by a fleet of taxis with running meters, so just wave, climb aboard, and you’ll be on your way. You can also get around using Uber or Careem.

METRO

The metro is blissfuly efficient and inexpensive Trains run every five minutes or so from around 6am until 11.30pm, with fares starting from LE2.

MONEY MATTERS

Egypt’s national currency is the Egyptian Pound, which comes in denominations of 1, 5, 10, 20, 50, 100, and 200 pound (geneh) notes. The smaller denominations, both in coin and paper form, are 25 and 50 Piasters (ersh), with 100 Piasters to every 1 Egyptian Pound.

Currency is readily available throughout the country with currency exchanges in just about every hotel and airport, as well as banks that can be easily navigated to using a simple Google search.

CULTURE & SHOPPING

Egypt is home to some of the most famous tourist destinations in the world, and is also the site of some of the oldest and most notable examples of human society and civilization The Souks, or the local markets, along with the larger bazaars are among the most remarkable attractions of Egypt. Anyone will tell you that the most famous and the largest bazaar in Egypt is the Khan El Khalili Market, in the Hussein District in Cairo.

Bahrain
Hong Kong
Kuwait
Macao
Oman
Jordan
Saudi Arabia
United Arab Emirates

The visa-free policy also applies to the citizens of the following countries under specific conditions:

Afgahnistan - for citizens over the age of 50
Sudan - for citizens over the age of 50 or a female national
South Sudan - for citizens over the age of 50 or a female national
Yemen - for citizens over the age of 50
China - for citizens with a return ticket, an upper class hotel reservation and an equivalent of USD 2,000

VISA ON ARRIVAL

Citizens of the following countries and territories may obtain visa on arrival at any of Egyptian ports of entry:
